The Official Ahimsa Dog Training Manual A Practical ForceFree Guide to Problem Solving Manners edition by Grisha Stewart MA Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks
When I got this book home I started by handing it off to my husband and making him read it. "Why?" you ask. Well I'm a dog trainer, have been for several years, and I needed someone who could read it from the other side i.e. someone who really has only ever heard of "operant conditioning" or "positive reinforcement", but really doesn't KNOW it. Now don't get me wrong, he 'gets it', but he doesn't train our two dogs (he's generally considered the "Great underminer").He read it and gave it two thumbs up, so then I read it.
This book is a fantastic sampler book that I now hand out to all of my new clients. I covers everything you need to know to get you started with your new dog, without getting bogged down in a massive amount of science. It's ONLY a 100+ pages, BUT in the 100+ pages you get amazing value.

The Official Ahimsa Dog Training Manual A Practical ForceFree Guide to Problem Solving Manners edition by Grisha Stewart MA Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
Stewart writes good books, packed with detail and background, for practical applications. High on my collection of clicker training books.
This easy to read, fun filled book is a must read for anyone interested in training their best friend. Grisha provides detailed explanations so even the newest of trainers can follow. Love the positive perspective!

Awesome book
I found the book to be very helpful. BAT training is priceless. I personally use it and have had great results with it.
She believes in all positive training. It works much better than Cesar Milan training on fearful dogs. Also try kikopup on youtube. She is all positive clicker training. I always thought a clicker would be a pain to always have, but it works so much easier. Love her books!
This book is a must have for every dog owner. Every puppy should go home with this book, as should every rescue and shelter dog. Grisha Stewart has done a fabulous job of simplifying learning theory so that even the most novice trainer can understand and apply the force-free training methods that give long-lasting results, rather than provide a temporary fix. Behavior isn't just stopped, it is replaced with a more desirable behavior that promotes a healthier relationship between dog and owner.
I send a copy of this book home with every client. Those who actually read the book and follow the training methods notice improvements in their dogs much faster than those who don't, and their dogs are happier and more eager to learn!
DEFINITELY BUY AND IMPLEMENT!
as a dog trainer, i'm always looking for books to recommend to my clients, which will also teach me something new/interesting.
grisha's book succeeds in both cases. grisha has an easy, conversational style which makes this book a joy to read. her training techniques and philosophy are made very clear, and are easy to follow.
she gives interesting examples of how to teach particular skills/cues, and has some new, innovative ideas to share (especially in dealing with the ever so complicated issue of dog reactivity).
i also greatly appreciate her courage and honesty in discussing coercive training techniques and pointing out why they do not work, and cause pain to our beloved dogs. something that some other trainers/writers often "pussy foot" around. it's nice to see that grisha doesn't hold back.
i highly recommend this book for professionals, dog enthusiasts, and doggie "rookies" alike.
